Woodcarversare all kinds of folks sharing a love of wood and nature and theircreativity and humor.  The Houston Area Woodcarvers Club(HAWC) isan organization for people who think woodcarving is a creative andrewarding activity.  They are people who feel that sharing thebenefits and joys of carving is almost as much fun as carvingitself.  HAWC provides up-to-date carving information and afriendly, helpful support system for carvers at all levels ofexperience.  It provides members an opportunity to increasetheirconfi?dence and expand individual skills at classes, demonstrations, and lectures by experts.

The Houston Area Woodcarverswere organized in 1970. They are a chapter of the National WoodcarversAssociation. Currently there are approximately 80 members. Many of themembers are also members of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild. Mini-classesat the monthly meetings are taught by both club members and carversfrom other areas of Texas and the U.S.

The Houston AreaWoodcarvers offer an opportunity to learn new and refine woodcarvingskills, to teach others your special techniques and to shareexperiences and successes.  It's an opportunity to shareinformation on sources for obtaining wood, tools, books, and more.

HAWCmembers carve in several formats:  "in-the-round", relief, realistic, stylized, caricature, and chip. Mini-classes and workshopsare offered at each club meeting.  Projects range from thebeginner to expert level and many can be completed in oneday. There is always someone available to offer help and hints to make aproject easier.
